Jena’s
nearest shallow draft port facility is the Port of
Alexandria, 35 miles away. The channel depth is 9
feet. Several
central Louisiana agencies are working together to
bring a viable water transportation route back to
the Red River. Planners are committed to building
ports on the river, which can contribute
significantly to the parish’s economic potential by
enhancing access to the Port of New Orleans and
other ports on the Gulf Coast.
